Ghanaian gospel musician, Gifty Osei, popularly known as Empress Gifty has been honoured by the Igbo community in Ghana over the weekend as she gets a new name in the process.
The Igbo Community in Ghana has installed Empress Gifty as Chief in a ceremony at Afua Sutherland Park in Accra over the weekend. She is now Chief Ugo Nma as conferred on her by the Nigerian King of the Igbo Community in Ghana, His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Ihenetu.
In her acceptance speech, the gospel musician thanked the Igbo Community for such an honour and promises to work to strengthen the cultural and economic ties between Ghana and Nigeria.
She said “I would like to express my gratitude to the King and people of Igbo Community in Ghana for bestowing such honour on me. I am more than thrilled to be part of history as the Igbo Community in Ghana marks 10th anniversary on the throne today.
This honour by extension would deepen the cultural and economic ties between Ghana and Nigeria. For this reason, I would avail myself for this cause because we stand to gain a lot by working together as Africans. From today, I am one of you” she concluded.
