Gifty Twum Ampofo Biography

Gifty Twum Ampofo is a Ghanaian politician belonging to the New Patriotic Party. She is the NPP member of parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern region of Ghana and currently a deputy minister of education.

She was born on June 11, 1967 in Kukurantumi in the Eastern region of Ghana.

Gifty obtained her BSc in Biology from the University of Cape Coast in 1997 and an MBA in Strategic Management in the same school.

She was a teacher at Akosombo International School where she taught Science before venturing into politics. Gifty is currently the Deputy Minister for Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education Training.

Gifty abandoned her teaching career and decided to focus on politics. She did so by contesting in the NPP parliamentary primaries for Abuakwa North constituency in the Eastern region of Ghana.

Gifty subsequently won the seat at the 2016 general elections beating off competition from Victor Emmanuel Smith of the NDC and Patrick Adjei Danquah, an Independent candidate. She won the election by obtaining 17,838 votes out of the 30,281 valid votes cast representing 59.23%.

She successfully retained the Abuakwa North constituency seat at the 2020 general elections. Gifty was nominated in 2021 by president Nana Addo and subsequently approved by parliament as the Deputy Minister for Education.

Gifty Twum Ampofo is widowed with three children.
