How To Apply For Scholarship Online In Ghana.

Lack of funds can easily affect ones chances of getting that degree he/she desires. When that happens, the country also does not get to benefit from quality human resource. It is for this reason that scholarships are awarded to persons who may need it. 

Ever wondered how you can apply for a scholarship in Ghana? Worry no more because this article will help guide you on how to apply for scholarship in Ghana. There is a whole scholarships secretariat established in Ghana to award scholarships to deserving applicants.

Firstly, let’s try to understand what scholarship is.

According to Wikipedia, Scholarship is an award of financial aid and for a student to further their education at a private elementary or secondary school, or a private or public post-secondary college, university or other academic institution.


There are several institutions or private individuals who award scholarships to students. However, the sole institution mandated to handle the government of Ghana’s scholarship is The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.

Ghana Scholarship Secretariat was established as far back as 1960. However it was until the 2019/2020 academic year that the secretariat was digitalised and decentralized.


The scholarship covers academic facility user fees and tuition fees for all accredited institution (both public and private).

How to apply for scholarship


Local Tertiary Scholarships

A. Applicants must take note of the following requirements;

  • Firstly, must have gained admission into any accredited local tertiary institution.
  • Secondly, he/she must have registered and enrolled to undertake the course
  • The institution must be accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB)
  • Local Tertiary Institutions can be Private or Public

B.  Continuing Students must apply online between April 1 – May 15 of each academic year.

C. New Students who had late admission should apply between September 1 – 30 of each academic year.

D. Applicants will be made to undertake a mandatory online aptitude test during the application process.
