WHAT IS SCHOLARSHIP?
Firstly, let’s try to understand what scholarship is.
According to Wikipedia, Scholarship is an award of financial aid and for a student to further their education at a private elementary or secondary school, or a private or public post-secondary college, university or other academic institution.
INSTITUTION RESPONSIBLE FOR GHANA SCHOLARSHIP
There are several institutions or private individuals who award scholarships to students. However, the sole institution mandated to handle the government of Ghana’s scholarship is The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.

Ghana Scholarship Secretariat was established as far back as 1960. However it was until the 2019/2020 academic year that the secretariat was digitalised and decentralized.
WHAT IT COVERS
The scholarship covers academic facility user fees and tuition fees for all accredited institution (both public and private).
Local Tertiary Scholarships
A. Applicants must take note of the following requirements;
- Firstly, must have gained admission into any accredited local tertiary institution.
- Secondly, he/she must have registered and enrolled to undertake the course
- The institution must be accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB)
- Local Tertiary Institutions can be Private or Public

B. Continuing Students must apply online between April 1 – May 15 of each academic year.
C. New Students who had late admission should apply between September 1 – 30 of each academic year.
D. Applicants will be made to undertake a mandatory online aptitude test during the application process.
