Award-winning Ghanaian afro beats and high-life singer and songwriter Dennis Nana Dwamena, popularly known as KiDi has revealed a secret about his musical career for the first time in a recent interview.
The “touch it” hitmaker revealed for the first time his decision to take up production even though he was and is still working under Lynx Entertainment.
According to him, he was inspired by Kuami Eugene, also a signee of Lynx Entertainment who was always prepared when the label signed him and could produce his music.
He was inspired by the fact that Kuami Eugene could write, sing and produce his songs right from the beginning which motivated him to also learn to produce his music.
He said “One of the reasons why I actually learnt how to produce was the fact that Lynx at that time had signed Kuami Eugene and he came fully prepared. He was a producer and a writer, he played an instrument and could work quickly. So every time Kuami Eugene has a new song to his name and I of course had to wait for Richie and if he’s not free then I don’t make music.”
“So I told myself that I needed to change because the ideas in my head that I wanted to bring to life, I couldn’t. So I told Richie, you know what, you need to teach me how to produce so he started teaching me, then he’ll leave me and I’ll do my own thing, practice practice”.
With time, he began producing his songs which includes hit songs like “say you love me”. He said “I used to have a 9 to 5 job at the National Service Secretariat so after work I’ll loosen my tie, go into the studio, fold my sleeves and experiment and I made “say you love me”.
“So when I saw what it did, it gingered me more and I started building my confidence on production because I realized that as an artist if you can produce, it influences your music and influences your sound as well”.
He made these revelations in the latest session on the “Sincerely Accra” podcast
