The number of public universities in Ghana is not sufficient to cater for the growing number of student population. Hence there is the need for private universities to compliment them. However you must be very careful when choosing a private school because you need to make sure you’re at the right place of study. The number of students that graduate from senior high school each is far more greater than the universities can take. Fortunately or unfortunately, not everyone can make it to the universities as some enrol in teacher and nursing training colleges, Vocational schools or drop out of school entirely.
Ordinarily, the average ghanaian student will want to enrol in any of the public universities such as UG, UCC, KNUST, UMaT, UDS etc. However, not everyone can secure admissions there because these universities can only admit so much. In the past, persons who attended private universities were seen as the not so bright students because there was this perception that it is only one who didn’t perform so well in the SSCE/WASSCE that goes to such universities.
